Prior to delivering any care, all our our Care Workers undergo a period of induction training to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to support our Customers. Induction training is in line with the Skills for Care Induction Standards and provided by our in-house training.
The Care Certificate
The Care Certificate is an identified set of standards that health and social care staff adhere to in their work roles. The aim is to provide a consistent standard of training for staff providing care in hospitals, care homes and in people’s own homes after the Cavendish Review (2014) highlighted a lack of ‘consistent or compulsory’ training across the health and social care sectors.
The Care Certificate sets out clearly the learning outcomes, competencies and standards of care that will be expected in our sector to ensure our staff are caring, compassionate and provide a quality service to our clients.
The Standards:
1. Understand your role
2. Your personal development
3. Duty of care
4. Equality and diversity
5. Work in a person centred way
6. Communication
7. Privacy and dignity
8. Fluids and nutrition
9. Awareness of mental health, dementia and learning disabilities
10. Safeguarding adults
11. Safeguarding children
12. Basic life support
13. Health and safety
14. Handling information
15. Infection prevention and control.
Shadow Training:
Each Care Worker will then spend time shadowing an experienced senior member of staff to ensure competency and highlight any need for further training.
Specialised Training:
After completing Induction training, staff are then supported to undertake training in specialist areas of care, including but not limited to:
Dementia, Alzheimer’s and Mental Health
Recognition/understanding of ethnic priorities: culture/religion/race/gender/life-styles
Physical Disabilities
Palliative Care/Death, Dying and Bereavement
Stroke Recovery
Our in-house training can also tailor training specific to your needs.
If any of our care staff decide to specialise in the more complex areas of care, then we can offer additional training to support them.
